Thrifting Tips!
Thrifting is something I have loved doing for a pretty long time now. However, sometimes it can become really difficult because you almost don’t know where to start. What am I looking for? What can I wear this with? Can I turn this into something else? With thrifting becoming a huge trend recently, I thought I would share my 3 favorite tips to make the process more fun and help answer all those questions!
Have an Idea or Vision
I find that I often have some of my best thrifting trips when I know certain pieces I am looking for. Start with the basics- are you looking for jackets? Sweaters? T-shirts? Choose a broad section of clothing and have some outfit ideas to go off of. I love using Pinterest or Instagram to see new trends or find outfits that I may like and can use as a reference when looking for certain items.
BE PATIENT.
This was really hard for me at first because when shopping I just want to go in and find what I am looking for right away. If you want to have a successful thrifting trip you have to be patient with the process. There are so many hidden gems in every thrift store but you just have to wait and look hard! You may even find other things you like in this process so it is always good to keep looking!
Have a DIY mindset
Often times when I go thrifting I end up cropping or “fixing up” some of the pieces I purchase. Try to think of ALL the ways you can wear something. Should I crop it? Or sew it? Or can I use the fabric to make a whole different item? This ensures that everything you are buying you know you will get good use out of and it’s fun to be creative with your clothes and make them exactly your style!
