How to fight that “cabin fever”

During the current state of the world many, if not all of us have been ordered to stay home unless it is absolutely essential to leave. This has been a big adjustment for everyone and by now I am sure you may already have found your favorite things to do but, I am here to share some of my favorite things to do when I find myself getting cabin fever.

  1. Binge a new show your YouTube channel

This is the perfect time to start that new series you’ve always been putting off watching. It’s okay to have those lazy days to watch a whole season (or series if you're like me). Treat yo’ self!

  2. Read

Read! This can be anything: book, magazine, blog- whatever is going to keep you entertained. I personally have read a few books during this quarantine and it has made me feel productive in the midst if doing nothing!

  3. Bake or Cook

Working in the kitchen is always something I have loved to do and find myself doing more recently. Because it’s important to stay home right now, I am not finding myself going to fast food nearly as often, which is probably a good thing. Make this fun! Recently my sister and I have been looking up recipes to  prepare for our family and it is fun trying things out that you never would have tried cooking beforehand!

  4. Craft

Crafting is one of my favorite ways to pass time and keep me busy especially when I am bored. A few easy things you can do is simply upcycle something you already have (repaint, sew, etc.). Or you can start new projects like ordering some canvases to paint or even making those friendship bracelets we all used to make in fifth grade (don’t lie, we all had that phase...I’m still in it).

  5. Start a blog!

I am a little biased on this one but hey it’s fun and keeps me busy. Now, you don’t have to start a blog but if you’ve been putting something off like writing a book or starting a YouTube channel, this is the perfect time to do it.

  6. Workout

I cannot stress enough how much working out has saved me during this time at home. I love to go on Pinterest or YouTube to find a workout routine to do! It’s super easy and while it may not be the most fun, you won’t regret it once it’s over.

  7. Self Care Day

Have a “treat yo’ self” day! Online shop, take a bath, do a face mask, paint your nails- the whole nine yards. This is one of those things that I think a lot of people forget to find time for, but it is so helpful for not just our physical health but mental too!

  8. Facetime or Call a loved one

In this day in age, even when we are separated we are so lucky to have the ability to stay connected. Stay in touch with those around you because a great conversation with someone you care about can change your whole mood.

  9. Clean

It’s Springtime and that means Spring cleaning. This is one of those activities which may not sound like the most fun, but again it will feel so much better once it’s finished and might motivate you to do it more often.

  10. Go on a walk

Even though we should be staying at home, that doesn’t mean we can’t get some fresh air a little bit! Go on a walk with your family or one of my favorite things is walking my dog. It’s easy exercise while also making you feel a little more sane in the midst of being stuck inside. However, if this is something you are doing please remember to still practice social distancing!

  11. Make a playlist

One of my favorite things to do is make playlists! It’s fun to kind of organize your music but also theme your playlists based on the season. This is a time where I can find new music, but also get excited for the season ahead. Along with that, music is a mood booster no matter what and whether you make a playlist or not, sometimes we all need a good dance session.

  12. Listen to Podcast

There are so many podcasts out there on what seems like every topic you can think of. Podcasts are fun because you can learn so much from them while also keeping you entertained. Like listening to music, you can listen to a podcast while cleaning or while on a walk to keep you entertained while doing something else.

  13. Re-Decorate

Now that we all have so much time on our hands, we can easily find the time to do those renovating/ redecorating some spaces in our homes. This is such a fun thing to do because it gets you to be creative with your spaces and it’s a refreshing change.

  14. Play a board or card game

Playing games with my family is something that brings back so many memories. It’s really fun but it also is a great way to bond with those around you and to do something together.

  15. Photoshoot with yourself or your family

One of my favorite hobbies is photography and it’s something that is so easy for everyone to do. Getting ready and “dolled up” for a photoshoot can help boost your mood and it’s a more unique way of staying busy.

  16. Get ahead

I know it may be hard to think about what’s next while in the current state of our world, but planning for fun things to do once this is all over is a huge mood booster. Not only that, but if you are a student like me, getting ahead on schoolwork is super rewarding and feels really productive. If you have the extra time to do it, might as well.

  17. Teach or learn a new skill

We have so many outlets to learn new things and with all of the time we have, there is no reason not to! Learn a new language, how to play an instrument, or re teach yourself a skill you might have lost. This gives you another thing to focus on and be productive for and is extremely rewarding.

  18. Go through old photo albums

This is something that my family has loved to do even when we weren’t stuck inside. Reminiscing on old memories and looking back at cute baby pictures of yourself and family members is such a fun way to be entertained and bond with your loved ones.

  19. Make a inspiration/ dream board to keep you motivated

One of my favorite ways to do this is by using Pinterest! You can easily make boards that are themed or just scroll through your feed for some different ideas and photos that may inspire you to do a certain task or activity.

  20. Take a second and breathe

Now this last one may not sound like something to actually do per say however, it is extremely important. Even though the current state of our world is not the most ideal, it is important to remember to take a breath, calm down and focus on what we can do about the situation. We have to remember that at some point this will end so taking this time to enjoy and do things we are constantly putting off can really change your mindset on this situation for the good.

Hope you are all staying healthy and safe during this quarantine!
