Moving Into my New House & my Favorite Tips for Decorating a New Room
Over the Summer, I have been working on getting things together to move into my new house at school! The process has been so much fun and exciting. Moving can be a lot of work, but having a plan and idea of what exactly you want to see/ have in your room can make it so much easier! I thought I would share my favorite ways to make moving and decorating fun and exciting instead of stressful!
When planning for my room, I like to use Pinterest to get inspiration for color schemes, how I may want the room to be set up and types of decorations I may want. Along with that, I also like to think about what exactly my style is. Is it more modern? Is it more simple? These are important things to consider when planning for a new room! For me personally, I LOVE a more Bohemian style. With that in mind, I knew that I wanted to have a lot of Earthy colors and more natural looking furniture. Once I figured that out, it made purchasing things for my room a lot easier and made sure that I was buying things I actually needed and that they would go together.
Once you have all of your room necessities it’s time for the fun part- decorating! This is one of (in my opinion) the best parts of setting up a new room. Decorating is where you make your room enhance its style while also adding your own personal touches. For example, I added more bohemian touches by including a lot of natural wood decorations like the frames for my gallery wall along with the more earthy and beachy photos. But, I also added a polaroid wall that includes a ton of pictures of me and my loved ones together. The gallery wall is the bohemian aspect, but the polaroid wall is my own personal touch because of the photos including pictures of people and memories from my life. Another huge tip for decorating is to re-use and thrift! There’s a chance that you already have so many things that you can up-cycle for your room- and this can be anything! For example, I had some old throw pillows that didn’t exactly match with my room, but I felt that I could still use them somehow. I happened to see a a really cute pillow from a store where the pillow covering appeared to be denim. It was WAY too expensive for what it needed to be, but I really wanted it. What did I do to get it? I took old pairs of jeans, cut them and fabric glued them to the outside of the pillows I already had. Sounds like a lot of work, but it was actually a really fun process and it looks just as cute! Try making things yourself or go to the thrift store to find the things you may find at a decor store for way more money!
